mission The EHUB aims to create world-class knowledge by investigating the
biological basis of human behavior and its evolution based on experimental
studies of non-human primates, which are evolutionarily closely related to
humans, and to make various proposals for human health, lifestyle, and human
society based on this knowledge. The research will be based on the following
principles The EHUB will contribute widely to the international research
community by providing many researchers with opportunities for collaborative
research, together with a wealth of experience and knowledge of primates
research and many accumulated research resources. The EHUB will educate
highly specialized personnel who can promote and develop the activities
described in the aims, in the Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate

about us The former Primate Research Institute (KUPRI) was established on June 1,
1967 to conduct comprehensive research on primates from various academic
perspectives and to elucidate the origin and evolution of human nature. With
the reorganization of the KUPRI, the Center for Evolutionary Origins of
Human Behavior (EHUB) was established on April 1, 2022 as a new
organization, mainly for brain science research, with the aim of
investigating the biological basis of human behavioral characteristics and
their evolution. The EHUB took over the three research sections and two
affiliated facilities of the KUPRI. The EHUB will promote the development of
human resources, succeeding to the role that the KUPRI has played as a
cooperative course department of the Graduate School of Science to date.
facilities The EHUB creates and provides high-quality resources to support experimental
research on non-human primates in Japan, and as the core institution of the
NBRP "Japanese Monkeys," it breeds 1,200 monkeys of seven species, including
Japanese macaques that are bred in consideration of their natural condition.
In addition, the EHUB houses more than 15,000 skeletal specimens, 6,000
molecular biological samples, and other materials used in various research
fields. The EHUB is equipped with large-scale research equipment such as CT,
MRI, and next-generation sequencers, as well as visitor accommodations,
dormitories for domestic and international students, and an international
joint research support system, forming an international and
interdisciplinary center of education and research for the study of
behavioral evolution in primates.
